The XEX newsletter not only contained a current catalog, but also news of what XEX participants working on were for future releases from not only XEX,but from other small press publishers as well, along with a small review section and contact address for other artists and publishers.Along with all of it's regular features, the XEX news- letter was loaded with strange and wonderful scribbles and tiny drawings throughout!
The first newsletter was four pages long, digest sized(8 1/2 x 5 1/2). By the time that the final issue was released (late 1988) it was 16 pages, with 5 to 6 pages of nothing but reviews and contact addresses! The mailing lists now contained over 400 hundered names and with re- quests for the "FREE" newsletter growing daily,it was clear to BOB"X" that this trend would continue and would prove to be the undoing of XEX GRAPHIX,with the rate of postage slowly but surely creeping up.
What had once been a pleasent little task to keep a few friends and customers informed of what was going on with the XEXERS,soon became a huge,,uncontrolable work effort that would sometimes drag into weeks of continous work. By the time the newsletter was all finished being written,drawn,layed-out,pasted-up,proof-read,edited,xeroxed,folded,stapled,addressed,stamped, and mailed(single handed by BOB"X"),it was then time for a new newsletter!
So the XEX newsletter turned out to be a never ending chore. And for all of the work,XEX was just barely breaking even on the cost of materials annd postage! Nobody was getting rich off of XEX GRAPHIX or the newsletter, but everyone was having a blast...everyone except BOB"X" that is...
